The Lumen focuses on trustworthy AI and governance in high-impact environments. Our work is guided by a clear set of principles that shape how we approach projects and collaborations.

Core principles

• Transparency – AI-supported processes and decision pathways should be visible, explainable and auditable.
• Accountability – we consider responsibility across technology, institutions and regulation, avoiding approaches that obscure who is accountable.
• Human-centred design – safeguarding dignity, rights and trust, especially where people are in vulnerable or high-stakes contexts.
• Independence & proportionality – as a non-commercial initiative, we aim for independent thinking and proportionate recommendations.
